Doctor Alex Martin Talks about Relieving Dental Anxiety
Ninety-nine percent of the time when someone comes in nervous, and a lot of people are nervous when they come to the dentist, so nobody should really be embarrassed about that. Just come on in, talk to us, talk to our front desk, meet some of the people. We try to just talk to them for a while first. Just get them more comfortable with the whole situation, explain to them exactly what you’re gonna be doing today. We’re not gonna just jump right in and start fixing things. We’re just, let’s discuss what we can do for you, and we’ll go from there.
I mean, there’s no reason to get crazy about coming in here first appointment. It’s just something that we can… Let’s all just relax. We’ll sit down, we’ll have a conversation, and we’ll see if we can agree on what to do from here. If that isn’t cutting it, sometimes we can start talking about different medications that can be taken prior to coming in. And we try to discourage that because I like patients that actually know what is going on in their lives when they’re here for them to understand exactly what we’re dealing with while we’re treating you.
Sometimes if you’re half asleep, it might be a little harder for you to understand what’s going on later. When you go home that night, you don’t quite understand what happened. I’d rather have you awake and I’d be able to explain to you what’s going on and just talk you through the whole process. But a little something to take the edge off is never out of the question.
